Men's and Women's Groups at The Greens The Greens Men’s Group was formed some 11 years ago by a small group of men who met each week for breakfast in the Clubhouse. Because of our increasing membership and activities, we now alternate weekly meetings between the Clubhouse and the Half Hollow Hills Public Library in Dix Hills. Meetings take place on Wednesdays at 10 Am for general Community discussions and programs presented by guest speakers on a wide variety of topics. Discussions include history, government, politics, sports, the art health and retirement issues (estate planning, shows, and political figures provide in-site to local affairs. We offer a variety of sports and recreational activities, and a trip to interesting regional venues, such as West Point, Boston, and Washington DC. Details of all our offerings are listed monthly in Around the Greens journal, the Greens HOA website, and members receive weekly email newsletters with further information. We have close to 300 members all male residents of the Greens and Country Pointe are eligible to join, but all residents are invited to attend meetings. We welcome everyone’s participation. Yearly dues are $50.00. The Greens Italian American Group is open to all men and women that reside at the Greens, including those not of Italian heritage. This is a purely social group with over 400 members, and while some of the entertainment highlights Italian traditions and history, many of the events are more general in nature. The annual dues are only $35.00 per person. These dues pay for the monthly entertainment presented at the Clubhouse. The group also donates to several charities throughout the year. As a social organization, the group plans trips into New York City, and travel within the US and to Europe. Membership forms are always available from the Co-Presidents or Co-Vice Presidents. The Greens Chapter of Hadassah, with over 400 members, is part of an international volunteer organization of more than 330,000 women throughout the United States. Hadassah inspires a passion for and commitment to its partnership with the land and people of Israel. It enhances the health of people worldwide through its support of medical care and cutting edge research, at the two Hadassah Medical Hospitals in Jerusalem. Hadassah Hospital welcomes all, regardless of religion or race. It is an organization that empowers women’s rights, health, and wellbeing. Our Associates (men) help and support Hadassah’s goals. The Greens Chapter is also involved in community service, Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), which it does by collecting shoes, holiday Toys for Tots (Cohen Children’s Medical Center), and much more. Some of its fundraising events include an Annual Fashion Show Luncheon, a book and Author Luncheon, Games People Play Luncheon, as well as trips to see Broadway Shows and exhibits. Hadassah’s many programs offer a wide variety of speakers and workshops. Come and join us; make a difference! Hadassah--the Power of Women Who Do! We have been doing so for over 100 years. The Women’s Group of the Greens (“WGG”) is a philanthropic organization of over 400 women that holds numerous events throughout the year to raise money for a variety of charitable causes. They have made major donations to Long Island Cares and Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. WGG’s fund-raising activities include a book and author luncheon, a Greens show, a card, and mah-jongg party, and trips to museums and Broadway plays, where a portion of the cost is always donated to a charity. WGG sponsors a number of free events with featured speakers that are open to everyone. Among it’s ‘Intellectual Activities,” the group hosts a periodic “Controversial Issues” lunch and discussion. There are active singles groups, which plans many outings throughout the year. Annual dues are $35. The Veterans Group of the Greens monthly meetings are open to all Greens residents. We attempt to promote Veterans with topics of interest, including programs, benefits, and assistance. We have numerous speakers Conversing about Veterans but also have other guest speakers talking about areas aside from Veterans’ programs. We secure our guest speakers who provide their talents at no cost. Our meetings are currently held once monthly at 10:00 AM at Chestnut Hill library. There is no better way to honor Veterans, our own Greens resident Veterans than to attend our meetings. We are instituting a second monthly meeting, usually during the second week of each month, where there is no guest speaker, but rather our own Greens resident Veterans talk about their own combat and military experiences. |
